Red Sonja

Red Sonja was the concluding chapter of the Conan trilogy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and when I was a young fantasy fan, this was a sort of "ow she's beautiful" movie... the babe flick as to say.

So fast forward almost 25 years (yes, it's been that long since I saw it) and well... Brigitte Nielsen doesn`t look to shabby in the film, but that is about all there still is to it.

Sonja is trained to become the greatest swordsman after her family is brutally murdered by the soldiers of Queen Gedren.  She is soon met by Kalidor (aka Conan in all but name) and the prince Tarn with his servant Falkon.  This add-hoc group, with Arnie often disappearing, only to turn up "right on time" as a sort Barbarian in your jacket pop-up, sets out to hunt Gedren.

Facing many dangers like a warlord, or a big underwater monster, they arrive at the castle of the evil queen.  Here she confronts the evil queen and eventually defeats it.

Now, most people see this movie as the "one to many" in the Hyborean tales, and after two and a half decades, I agree.  The acting is stiff to say the least, and it is long not as flashy as I remembered.  On the contrary, it`s actually a rather boring film, showing the perfect difference between the mind of an 80s kid, and the current day level of films in this genre...
